Retrospective of Andrei Tarkovsky in Greece

A retrospective show of films by the eminent Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky starts today in the Greek city of Thessaloniki. The event has been organized by the Thessaloniki Film Festival Company.
      "Tarkovsky was a great poet and philosopher of cinefilm, and one of the most important representatives of cinema art of the second half of the 20th century" - the company reports.
      The film director's son Arseni Tarkovsky, Head of the Moscow Tarkovsky Foundation Paola Volkova and Marika Beiku, co-author of Tarkovsky's first film will speak at the opening of the retrospective.
      In the framework of the retrospective the pictures The Killers (1958), There Will Be No Leave Today (1959), The Steamroller and the Violin (1961), and Ivan's Childhood(1962) will be demonstrated. The show programme will be supplemented with Moscow Elegy (1986) by Aleksandr Sokurov and Chris Marker's documentary One Day in the Life of Andrei Arsenevitch showing Tarkovsky working on his final film.
