One of the leading masters of the Russian cinema Karen Shakhnazarov is going to present his new film Ischeznuvshaya Imperia (The Vanished Empire) on St. Valentine's Day, February 14.
"In spite of the title, it is in no way a social or a political picture. Probably, for the first time I have shot a purely love film" - Karen Shakhnazarov says.
The film is set in the 1970s, in the last 15 years of the USSR existence, the heyday and at the same time the beginning of the end of the soviet empire. A story about Moscow students unfolds against the background of historic events.
"The attention is focused on a classical love triangle two boys and a girl. This is a memoir of my youth. Today I wonder at the fact that back then we all fell in love, got married, and divorced, and it did not occur to us, that the country in which we were living, was already condemned and would soon vanish from the world map, that our life was going on against the background of global historic events" - the film-director explains.
