Will the Last Work by Vladimir Nabokov Be Wiped Out?

The last, unpublished and unfinished work by one of the most brilliant men of letters of the 20th century - Vladimir Nabokov - might be obliterated by his son Dmitry in pursuance of the writer's will.

The only heir of Vladimir Nabokov, the 73-year old former opera singer has given his firm assurance on this point.

In his will Nabokov emphasized that the unfinished work Podlinnaya Lara (True Lara) had to be deleted after his death, since he hated the idea of readers seeing his work, which he had "completed in his mind" but not on paper.

However, more than 30 years past the death of the writer nobody has dared to fulfill his will and delete the manuscript, which consists of 50 catalogue cards kept in a Swiss bank. Vladimir Nabokovs wife Vera who died in 1991 had not been able to bring herself to doing this either.
