Gazprom enters the Irish gas market

Gazprom Marketing and Traiding Ltd. (GMT), a subsidiary of the Russian gas monopolist, has been licensed to work at the Irish gas market, the volume of which is estimated at €2 billion per year.

The company plans to start gas supplies to the country at the end of 2008 and take over 10-15% of the local market within a 5-year period.

GMT was established in Great Britain in 1999. The company sells gas, electric power, coal and oil to commercial consumers.

Besides, Gazprom may well acquire a big asset to enter the market of Ireland. It is also possible that gas will be delivered from Russia to Ireland via connecting pipelines in Great Britain.
