The Russian economy has lost 700 billion rubles or $28.5 billion approximately for 10 days of New Year’s celebrations.
During the holidays Russian business and almost all enterprises stopped, which resulted in expected 2% GDP decrease. Besides, long celebrations adversely affect the efficiency of workers and make it exceptionally difficult for them to start work again.
However, the experts mark that GDP doubled at the end of December due to enormous amount of presents bought by the Russians prior to the holidays.
For comparison, Christmas holidays in Great Britain cost only $1.5 billion.
