Russia to supply Iran with missile system
S-300

Iran has officially claimed Russia is to sell it an S-300 anti-aircraft missile system. This bargain can raise tensions between Russia and the United States.

The timing of the system delivery has not been announced yet. The agreement on the supply was reached in the past.

S-300 missiles are longer-ranging than the TOR-M1 surface-to-air missiles. The S-300 system can defend Iran from the US and Israeli jets. Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said last month Iran would never launch an attack against another country but warned that anybody trying to invade Iran would "face a crushing response".

Russia says that Iran is its important strategic partner. The two countries are cooperating in the trade-economic sphere, in solving Afghan issue and drug trafficking.
