Tomorrow, December 22, will mark the 70th anniversary of the famous writer Eduard Uspensky, the creator of Cheburashka, Gena the Crocodile, Matroskin the Cat, Postman Pechkin, and other characters, the significance of which in Russia has gone far beyond the limits of childrens literature.
The first book of Eduard Uspensky was Uncle Fyodor, Dog and Cat published in 1974. However, the writer gained international fame thanks to his Cheburashka, a little fanciful creature with big ears, big kind eyes and all covered with brownish hair.
Almost all books by Eduard Uspensky have been screened and some of them even staged. He has been translated into 25 languages and is the most published Russian writer abroad.
