Archaeological excavations of the Big Palace in Tsaritsyno have been acknowledged among the major expeditions on a world scale.
In recent three years archaeologists have uncovered the foundation of the palace and given material for its restoration. Architect V. Bazhenov started building this palace in 1776 by order of Empress Catherine II the Great. Soon the building was demolished as the empress did not like it. In a year rebuilding works were started under the direction of architect Matvei Kazakov, yet were not completed. Only 220 years later the reconstruction of the manor was finished, Utro.ru informs.
According to the Moscows Chief Archaeologist Alexander Veksler, the diggings in Tsaritsyno will go on next year as well.
