The Danish choreographer Kim Brandstrup is going to stage a one-act ballet set to Sergey Prokofievs music that was composed in 1936 for the never released film Queen of Spades by Mikhail Romm. The ballet will appear on stage of the Covent Garden Opera House in London.
According to The New York Times, the unfinished suite partly reminds of the ballet Romeo and Juliet and the Fifth Symphony by Sergey Prokofiev.
Kim Brandstrup was the one who discovered the copy of the scores for the Queen of Spades and offered Monica Mason, Director of Royal Ballet to use the music piece for a stage production. The smoothing of the work by Sergey Prokofiev was carried out by the British composer Michael Berkeley.
The still untitled ballet will feature the star dancers of the famous British company, such as Alina Cojocaru, Carlos Acosta and Zenaida Yanovsky.
As The Times reports, the plot for the ballet has been adopted from Fyodor Dostoevsky novel The Idiot.
