According to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, around 40 cars are stolen in the Russian capital every day. The inspectorate marks that tastes of Moscow car thieves have changed considerably within the several past years: they now mainly prefer "working" with foreign cars. While in 2006 the most frequently stolen car in Moscow was Volkswagen Passat, in 2007 the thieves have switched to Porsche Cayenne. 50 cars of this make have been stolen in Moscow within the last ten months of the current year, and none of them has been found and returned to the owner.
The most recent case of Porsche Cayenne theft in Moscow occurred yesterday, October 30. A Porsche Cayenne was stolen from a 26-year-old deputy head of a large company who estimated the car at 3.5 million roubles (US$142000 approximately). Like it happened with the rest of the stolen Porsche Cayenne cars, all efforts of the police to find the thefts have resulted in nothing.
