Early in the morning on October 31, 2007, a passenger bus exploded in the Russian city of Togliatti (the Samara Region of Russia). 8 people were killed and 20 hospitalised with serious injuries. In addition, at least 20 more people sought medical help as many of them happened to be not far from the bus when it exploded. The blast was so powerful that the first and second floor windows of the nearby houses shattered.
Experts of the Federal Security Service of Russia preliminarily conclude that the bus was blown up with an explosive device equal to 300 gr-1 kilo in TNT. The governor of the Samara Region Vladimir Artyakov reports that a criminal case has been opened upon the fact of a terrorist act; at the moment the police are holding an investigation. The law-enforcement agencies suggest a version saying that the bomb was attached to the bus bottom side or was somewhere on the floor of the bus salon.
For the further investigation the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has sent a group of specialists, who dealt with terrorist acts in public transport of Moscow, to the Samara Region.
The latest reports by Russian media say the total number of injured people exceeds 50.

Update - 4pm Moscow time. After having examined the tragedy site more carefully the experts came to a conclusion that the bomb was equal to 2 kilos in TNT.
The Centre of Catastrophe Medicine of the Samara Region reports that on the total 53 people were injured: 47 of them are in hospital.
