Irony of Fate 2 Ready to Break Box Office Record of Russia

A sequel of the most popular Soviet comedy Ironiya sudby, ili S legkim parom! (The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!) (1975) will go on general release in Russian cinema theatres on the eve of the New Year.
The Irony of Fate 2 is at once a sequel and a remake, i.e. both the continuation and a new interpretation of the plot of the first film. The leading characters from the original story now have children, who face the same collisions as their parents once had.
Andrei Miagkov, Barbara Brylska and Yuri Yakovlev are starring in the sequel, just like in the first film. Milla Jovovich was invited to play the daughter of Ippolit and Nadia, yet she refused after having read the scenario. Eldar Ryazanov, the director of the first Irony of Fate, also rejected taking part in the project.
The Irony of Fate 2 has been directed by Timur Bekmambetov, the creator of the recent Russian blockbuster Night Watch.
The film producers expect the sequel to bring them about $ 45-50 million, that would make a record box-office success in Russian film distribution history.
