RUSAL no longer the biggest aluminum manufacturer

The United Company Rio Tinto Alcan has become the worlds largest aluminum producer.

Two days ago the English-Australian mining company Rio Tinto completed acquisition of 79.4% of Canadian Alcan for 38.1 billion dollars, which is expected to increase Rio Tintos aluminum production from 9 to 32%.

From now on the Russian United Company RUSAL will be rated second.
United Company RUSAL produces 3.9 million tons of aluminum and 11.2 million tons of alumina annually. Rio Tinto Alcan will manufacture 4.3 and 8.7 million tons of aluminum and alumina respectively.
