Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow intends to equip a parking area for the largest passenger aircraft in the world – Airbus A380, according to airport’s director general Mikhail Vasilenko.
The parameters of the runway at Sheremetyevo Airport are already suitable for A380 landing and taking off. It is planned to equip a parking space for the Airbus during reconstruction of the terminal Sheremetyevo-2 that has started recently.
However, the question – who will fly to Moscow by this plane – still remains unclear. Russian air companies do not plan to buy this aircraft yet, and if they finally decide to purchase it, they will hardly be able to do it sooner than in 2015. Almost all of the foreign airlines that have ordered Airbus A380 fly to Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, not Sheremetyevo, but they do not plan to use this plane for flying to Russia either. Theoretically such plans may appear if the passenger traffic to Russia grows considerably. In this case availability of a parking place for A380 at Sheremetyevo would become a weighty argument for attracting those airlines to the airport.
