Drunk drivers to be detected at long range

A new remote breathalyzer able to detect breath alcohol concentration in the passenger compartment of a moving car has been developed in St Petersburg. The device is equipped with a special eye safe laser. The new breathalyzer measures breath alcohol concentration through a not-tinted windshield, say specialists.

The device is set several metres upper the road level. In case excessive breath alcohol concentration is detected in a passenger compartment, the data about the car will be sent to the nearest police inspection station, where the officers will have to find out if a driver is drunk or not.
