The company Russian Railways has worked out a programme of development of high-speed railway lines in Russia till 2020 in order to provide comfortable transportation during 6-7-hour train trips.
As the press-service of Russian Railways reports, after a careful analysis of the transport connections between the largest Russian cities, the company picked and considered 18 directions with stable passenger traffic where introduction of high-speed railway communication would be the most reasonable. These are the directions of such cities as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Samara, and Novosibirsk, where the growth of passenger traffic is expected to reach 10-13% by 2010.
The trains` speed at the route Moscow – St. Petersburg is said to be at least 250km/h, St. Petersburg – Buslovskaya (border with Finland) – up to 200km/h, and for the rest of directions – 140-200km/h.
