The Federal Aeronautical Service of Russia recommends the citizens and organizations to refrain from sending up air balloons as they pose a real threat to safety of aircraft flights.
“The Russian Navigation Service calls private organizations and citizens to draw attention to the fact that plane crews of civil aviation carrying out flights to such Moscow airports as Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo, mark frequent cases of coming upon air balloons that are usually bought and sent up in the course of some entertainment and holiday events. The manoeuvre characteristics of civil aviation aircraft do not let planes avoid a collapse with an object spotted while in flight. C ollapsing with aircraft, air balloons may cause plane systems and engines failure”, as a press-release of the Federal Aeronautical Service marks.
According to the press service of the Russian Air Navigation, in August and September 2007 Russian plane crews came upon balloons in the Moscow flying zone 12 times.
