Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural Federal District of Russia, promises to create a developed Muslim infrastructure in the city by the annual summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that will take place there in 2009.
As the City Mayor’s Office reports, in the centre of Yekaterinburg it is planned to build a new mosque, to open Muslim clothing shops, and also halal restaurants where food will be cooked according to the Muslim religious canons.
The mosque is to be constructed at the city’s so-called “confessional triangle” where already there is an Orthodox cathedral and a Jewish synagogue. The mosque`s shape will remind Taj-Mahal with four minarets.
