Two up-to-date technologies of geographical data collection – laser scanning and air photography – have helped Russian scientists to come up with a relief model of a new promising first-rate complex for recreation and tourism named “Arkhyz”.
The site, located in mountainous area of Karachaevo-Cherkesiya, has undergone mapping photography in this July, and first results of office studies of obtained data appeared in August. Result were obtained by means of “ALTM 3100” laser scanning system and “Rollei” digital medium format aerophotographic camera.
The “Arkhyz” project is unique because sensing has covered both 3-thousand-meter-high ridges of the North Caucasus and deep river valleys. The pistures have been taken form the “Mi-8T” helicopter, which allows working in mountains, providing required survey accuracy for steep slopes.
