A 15-year-old Russian teen Andrey Scherbakov has committed the most unprecedented flight in the history of Russian aviation: he flew a distance of 1300 kilometres (from the Russian city of Perm to Moscow) inside a wing of Boeing-737. The boy spent 2 hours at a temperature of -50C.
Andrey Scherbakov was found at the airfield of Vnukovo Airport in Moscow by the airport’s staff and then delivered to hospital. The boy was diagnosed with deep frostbites of his legs, arms, and hands. The medics said they could hardly put off the boy’s coat and shoes as his frozen limbs had grown in size so much.
Now the boy is in a very serious condition at hospital in his native city of Perm and there is also a probability that his hands may be amputated. However, according to the medical workers, it is a miracle that Andrey has survived after spending 2 hours at such low temperatures.
According to the boy, he flew to Moscow trying to escape from his family as his father is alcoholic. It is still unknown how the boy managed to get in the Boeing wing and remain unnoticed.

: This news item was reported by over 67 informational sources (http://news.yandex.ru/yandsearch?cl4url=59%2Eru%2Fnewsline%2F20223%2Ehtml), including such ones as radio Ekho Moscvy, RIA Novosti, and Vesti of a federal TV channel. Today there are already new reports about the boy`s health. Perhaps, all media sources are telling lies. Added: 26 September 2007 11:02 |

: Ya I call BS on this one, no way anyone could survice 400+mph and -50 degrees for 2 hours. People who climb mount everest die from lack of oxygen, planes fly 1000ft higher than Mt. everest....BS Added: 26 September 2007 18:43 |

: How did he get inside the wind? Did he unscrew any lid? Did he strapped himself iside the landing gear compartment? Added: 26 September 2007 19:22 |

: It's the wheel-well. The 737's main gear retracts in to the wing. He technically could have climbed into the wing and then held onto it as the wheel was put down again for landing. Still somebody has to show me where he hid there since there's not much space. Added: 26 September 2007 23:35 |

: um it actually is extremely possible people do it all the time. not everyone survives. they usually freeze to death and if your not crushed my the landing gear when it comes up then you will be fine besides from the cold ive gone up there before my dad flies planes so its not bs Added: 28 September 2007 02:57 |

: The residual heat from the brake stack on the gear would have kept that wheel well warm for a while, maybe even 2 hours. I have a problem with the lack of oxygen. That area is unpressureized. Added: 28 September 2007 17:40 |

: I agree, I think the lack of oxygen should have been the key here. Most commercial aircraft fly 30-35,000 feet. You need oxygen to breathe at that altitude. Added: 28 September 2007 23:26 |

Frank E. Lane, M.D.
: He survived because he is only fifteen and must have been fairly athletic- an excellent case history in hypothermia! But if he suffered enough tissue damage from frostbite, the muscle break-down could lead to kidney failure, among other things. This young man is not home free, yet. It'll have to be a top notch medical team in Perm to pull Andrey through this one! I'd like to know what else his father would have him do before he gets treatment for alcoholism! It's such a common story... in the end; the healthiest member of the family has to "act out" to get the attention of professionals in a desperate bid to "save the family". Then again, maybe he was just trying to save himself by making a break for freedom. Whatever you do, DON"T PRAY FOR HIM! It was recently shown in a British medical study that cardiac patients that knew they were being prayed for... did worse than those who were "left alone" (or at least, didn't KNOW they were being prayed for!) Seriously! Check it out! Based on this scientific study, it would be wise to include a "do not pray for me" clause in your living will! Added: 02 October 2007 09:29 |
