New aftershocks registered in Sakhalin

Yesterday three new earthquakes shook the Sakhalin Region. Although they didn’t cause any damage and victims, nobody can surely say they were the last aftershocks and all is over.

The first 3.3-magnitude aftershock was registered 34 kilometeres north of the town of Nevelsk, which was partially destroyed by the last earthquake on 2 August. Since then 25 aftershocks and over 400 minor shocks were recorded in the region.

The other two earthquakes (4.2 and 4.4-magnitude) occurred on the Kuril Islands.
The disastrous Nevelsk earthquake with a Richter value of 6.8 happened on 2 August and destroyed homes of over 8000 people.
