Buddhist Ideal World in St.-Petersburg
22.12.2004 00:00

A five-meter high model of the Ideal World, kept in the vaults of the Museum of the History of Religion (St.-Petersburg) will be restored.
The Buddhist paradise built a hundred years ago for a Buddhist temple and brought to Russia by the famous collector Prince Esper Ukhtomsky in 1905, was displayed in the museum in the 1930s and partly in the 1950s. Since then the multilevel composition consisting of 360 parts has been kept disassembled.
To exhibit the Buddhist Paradise composition, it is necessary to restore its separate parts and the principle of their disposition in the three-level construction and create multimedia programs that will highlight the history and philosophy of Buddhism for the museums visitors.
