Russia to send a bid to the UN for new limits of Arctic Shelf

Russia is going to lodge an application for new outer limits of the continental shelf in the Arctic Ocean for the UN, but not before 2010 comes, said the head of the Russian department of the national policy in geological and subsurface use field. In case the UN commission approves the application, Russia will be given a right to exploration of oil and gas fields on the bottom of the Arctic Ocean.
      Last Thursday Russian bathyscaphes went down to the bottom of the ocean at the North Pole and put up a Russian flag there.
