Nord Stream wants to build a port on Swedish Gotland
Gotland Island

The consortium of Nord Stream AG is considering an opportunity to build a port in the town of Slite, Gotland Island. The port is to become a logistic centre necessary for construction of the German-Russian gas pipeline. However, local inhabitants dont support the idea of the submarine pipeline, though Nord Stream AG is confirmed in its environmental safety. Most politicians of the island tend to accept the offer to extend the port, as a bigger port can attract new investors and tourists to Gotland and allows establishing new sea links.

Anyway, the Swedish parliament will make its final decision this autumn. In case the consortium of Nord Stream is given a permit for construction works, another Swedish town of Karlshamn will also provide the Russian party with a piece of land and a quay.
