The TV channel Russia has cancelled screening a series “Special-Purpose Prison”, the first performance of which was scheduled for yesterday’s evening. The film about life of prisoners and the prison administration has caused protests of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FPS).
The series shows a prison for the sentenced to death in the Russian city Vologda of the 90`s. The administration of the prison organizes drug production works and the hero, officer of the FPS personal security department, fights with the drug business alone.
According to the FPS representatives, who by the way have not seen “Special-Purpose Prison” yet, the series may slander the reputation of the Russian law-enforcement agencies.
The editor of the series project Arseny Sukhoverkhov comments that the direction of the TV channel Russia refuses to give any explanations concerning their decision to cancel featuring the film. “All happening has a character of slight hints, but we understand that the series was not approved by the Federal Penitentiary Service”, he says.
