Battle action in Chechnya has been over, and the Chechen authorities intend to develop tourism in the region which is said to have unique nature and ancient architectural monuments – now the matter depends on the infrastructure.
It is said to build camping in the mountains and create maps with special travel routes. However, real tourists will hardly come to the region soon: first of all the authorities want to make the locals come back – many people left the republic during the war. Besides, there is also a problem with dislocation of the frontier guards: several frontier stations are situated near the populated areas while according to the regulations they must be 5-7 kilometres distant from any villages and towns. The current entry system works in such a way that if a person wants to travel to Chechnya, they must submit the documents 6 months prior to the trip.
“Chechen Switzerland” – that is the way president of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov calls the villages that earlier appeared in military news. The first tourists expected to come to the republic in the future are students of biological, historical, and geological faculties.
