Over a hundred paintings by Olga Alexandrovna, the sister of Nikolas II, are being displayed in the Tretyakov Gallery. The exhibition marking the 125th anniversary of the “august artist” opened yesterday with a divine service in Saint Nicolas Church.
Olga Alexandrovna was the only child of Alexander III born during his reigning. In the early 20th century the young duchess arranged charitable exhibitions of her works and paintings by beginning artists in the tsar’s palace.
During World War I Olga Romanova equipped a hospital with her own funds and served there as a nurse. Olga Alexandrovna spent the last 12 years of her life in Canada, where she died in 1960.
The exhibition will be open till July 29.
