A new tourist service – Mobile Guide – has appeared in St. Petersburg, provided by the mobile company Megafon for their customers who can access the guide by dealing the number 0777. The idea of the service is as follows: within several seconds the mobile phone defines the customer’s location and offers information about the nearby sightseeing and places of interest of St. Petersburg in English and Russian. At the moment there are 30 mini-excursions 1.5 minutes each.
      Supposedly in the future the service will help tourists lost in the city – it will suggest the best ways to the hotel or restaurant. The cost of the mobile service is 30 roubles per minute without the value added tax and without payment for roaming. Specialists mark that the system may encounter errors while defining the customer’s location – depending on the weather the error may reach 500 metres.
