Monument to Russian Language Open in Belgorod

A monument to the Russian language has been set up in front of the Regional Scientific Library in Belgorod.

The monument by the Belgorod sculptor Anatoli Shishkov has been sculptured as a bronze Bible four-meter high with its open pages displaying letters of the Russian alphabet. The monument is crowned with the Gospel phrase: “In the beginning was the word”.

“This moment is the only one of the kind in Russia. Its composition reflects the holiness of the Russian language, its historic roots and connection with the Orthodoxy” - the Belgorod Region governor Evgeni Savchenko said at the ceremony of the monument’s unveiling.
