The Association of guides-interpreters, tour guides, and tourist managers claims there are facts of extorting money from foreign tourists by workers of Moscow police (militia) and asks the authorities to activate fight with these violations. Around a month ago the Association sent an official letter to state organizations. In particular, the letter points at cases when police workers extorted money from foreign tourists under the guise of fines for the absence of personal documents which the tourists in fact had given to hotels for registration.
The executive officer of the Association Larisa Sosunova says: “Such facts really take place and our guides regularly encounter these situations”. She also adds that the Association of guides-interpreters, tour guides, and tourist managers unites nearly 1500 tour guides and is “aimed at protection of guides` interests”.
