Lithuania is going to veto Russia-EU negotiations, which are to take place in Samara, unless oil supplies via Druzhba pipeline are recommenced, said Lithuanian President. Oil supplies to Lithuania were cut off 29 July 2006 due to technical failures. Russian Federal Service for Ecological Technical and Atomic Supervision detected about 8000 flaws in the pipeline. However, there is another opinion saying Druzhba was closed up since Lithuania sold its only oil-processing plant Mazeikiu Nafta to Polish PKN Orlen when a Russian company announced a wish to acquire it. Druzhba was the pipeline to deliver oil materials to this oil-processing plant.
Providing Lithuania vetoes the talks, the parties won’t be able to sign cooperation agreements.
