Genetically modified products to be marked in Russia

The Russia Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Service is going to introduce compulsory marking of genetically modified products, says Gennady Onishchenko, Head of the Service. The bill is come into force as soon as the Service gains the right to enact the sanitary code and rules.
Today manufacturers cancel information about genetically modified components used in production, since it may adversely affect their profits. The head of the service has noted that in Russia percentage of genetically modified components in production is much lower than in the USA and close to the European standards.
