Northern Office of Hydro-Meteorological Service (ONMS) schedules “Mikhail Somov” scientific ship for exploration of Shtockman deposit as one of several planned joint expeditions with Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.
Scientists plan to perform integrated exploration of Arctic seasonal cycles and to examine formation, dynamics and size of icebergs and build units, protecting the whole system from emergency situations, on the basis of the results obtained.
Northern OHMS considers Shtockman deposit to be world largest marine deposit of gas condensate with sea depths reaching 320 m.
Scientists consider Barents Sea icebergs to be the most serious problem of Shtockman deposit, because there are very few studies of ice giants. Obtaining information on them is necessary for prevention of emergency situations on the deposit.
