Winged Genius of St. Petersburg University

The monument to Universant, a collective image of graduates, has appeared by the entrance of the Twelve Collegia building of the St. Petersburg University.

The sculpture is an allegoric bronze figure of a flying winged Genius with a torch of knowledge and a laurel wreath. In ancient mythology Genius is the patron of brave, outstanding, headmost and extraordinary personalities. The monument has been presented to students in honour of the university’s foundation, traditionally celebrated in February. The winged Genius has been sculptured by Mikhail Belov.
