From now on Russia has removed a ban on horned cattle import from Canada and some Swiss cantons, reports the Russian Federal agency for veterinary and phytosanitary supervision. Canadian animals may be imported to Russia, provided that they were born and grown in the territory of the country, and are supplied only from farms checked by the Canadian cattle identification agency, which can confirm absence of bovine spongiform of encephalopathy (BSE) cases at farms.
Besides, the federal Veterinary Agency of Russia resumes breeding stock import from some Swiss cantons. All the animals must be born not earlier than 2002 and grown in the country.
It should be mentioned, that in April of 2004 Russia imposed a ban on horned cattle import from the countries, where so-called “mad cow” disease was registered. Such measures were imposed in view of continued expansion of bovine spongiform encephalopathy and in order to prevent penetration of photogenic organisms in the RF territory.
