The Ministry of transport of Russia is planning to increase fines Russian airlines will pay for flights delays. In this case fines will increase up to 250-600 EUR approximately, which is close to European standards.
There is an opinion that the backward reaction of the Ministry of transport to the rightlessness of Russian air passengers appeared after some non-ordinary figures experienced long hour flights delays during New Year holidays.
At the moment Russian airlines have to pay their passengers a compensation of 25 roubles for each hour of a flight delay. If the Minister of transport of Russia approves the increase of the new fines “price-list”, it may consequently lead to air tickets costs` growth as well as increasing of the number of claims against airlines.
However, the Ministry of transport hasn’t given any comments on when exactly the European fining rules are expected to come into force.
