As the director of the Far East state sea biosphere park Andrey Malyutin says, the number of seals in the region went up after the area had gained the status of a national park. Food search makes the animals migrate across the bay, and therefore appear within the city boundaries, Andrey Malyutin clarifies.
Although seals are curious and not fearful, city can pose a source of stress for the animals. This is why the seals are not expected to be present in the city for long.
The only in Russia sea national park was created in 1978 in order to preserve the diversity of sea life. In 2003 UNESCO conferred the national park the biosphere status to mark the global importance of the area.
