24 schools and 5 universities take part in the «Folkes telescopes» project of British Council. Over 500 young astronomers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Ekaterinburg will take pictures of stars with the help of professional equipment without leaving their hometown.
Each school cooperates with a professional astronomer, who defines a field of scientific use before taking pictures. When the project ends, research results will be available on the web site Hands-On-Universe, where members of «Folkes telescopes» project will share and discuss their opinions.
The idea of the project is not only drawing young people into science, but also showing that science is a hardwork requiring persistence and patience.
