Russian science ship “Academic Alexander Karpinsky”, which traveled to Antarctica from Saint Petersburg to perform full-scale experiments within “World Ocean” programme, has reached the Sea of the Commonwealth of Antarctica.
Next week the expedition will move to its planned science test site in Mawson’s sea. Scientists plan geophysical and magnetometric survey of seabed for finding mineral deposits.
Next stage of science programme is deep-water survey of sea bottom together with German national expedition on the “Polarstern” polar icebreaker, which belongs to Vegener Institute.
Results of scientific research will be published in the atlas of Earth geologic structure in South Polar Region.
