Russian Carrier To Launch German Reconnaissance Satellite

Russian carrier “Kosmos-3M” has set the German reconnaissance satellite SAR-Lupe-1 to its final orbit today.

Open German sources report that satellites, weighing 770 kg each, are equipped with devices allowing getting images of Earth’s surface under any lighting and weather conditions with resolution less than 1 meter.

Radar antenna diameter is three m – allowing getting images of an object by means of overlapping of several images.

The satellite is able to identify cars, planes, as well as “specific objects”. Spaceships will be placed on three orbits about 500 km high. Maximum response time of the satellite’ equipment to the request is 11 hours.
