Russia to set a Memorial Rock to victims of nazism in Strasbourg
12.10.2004 00:00

Memorial Rock to victims of nazism will be set in Strasbourg on Russian initiative. This has been declared today by Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Mikhail Markelov at a press-conference with IA Novosti.
Russia suggested that the Memorial Rock should be erected on the square in front of the building of the European Council. Mr. Markelov informed that Russian initiative got wide support of the Strasbourg municipal authorities. “We are planning to do it next year”, - added he.
A number of similar actions has been performed this year already. In June there was erected the monument to holocaust victims in Byelorussia, in Gorodeya village of Minsk region, where fascists destroyed 1137 Jews in 1942. The spot is now covered with 1137 stones aimed to be a silent reminder of the victims of genocide.
