Today, November 29, St. Petersburg will witness a solemn ceremony of signing an agreement between the Congress library of the USA and Russian national library within the framework of the new international project of development and creation of the worldwide digital library. National libraries and archives of different countries are expected to become the main participants of the project. Google is expected to finance the programme in the beginning by contributing 3 million dollars.
      The worldwide digital library will contain valuable materials on history and culture of various peoples and ethnic groups. This is aimed at increasing mutual understanding between different cultures.
