Migrants to have limited choice of work

Starting January 1, 2007, migrants working in Russia are prohibited to sell alcohol and alcohol-containing production and pharmaceuticals, said the minister of Health and Social Development of Russia. Since the beginning of the year the allowed quota of working migrants is planned to be introduced in four types of economic activity, said the minister commenting on labor migration control resolutions adopted by the RF government. According to his words, only 40% migrants of the total number of salesmen will be allowed to deal at markets and kiosks in the first quarter of 2007.
      The head of the Ministry additionally reported that the government determined the quotas for working migrants coming from the countries Russia has visa regime with. In 2007 this quota will make up 308 thousand people. Its the first time the quota for foreign citizens from CIS countries not maintaining visa regime with the RF is established.
