The exhibition Scientific Achievements of Ancient India opened on Monday in Russian Institute of History of Arts of Russian Academy of Science in St.-Petersburg. The exhibition is timed to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Roerich and the 100th anniversary of Svyatoslav Roerich, who greatly contributed to strengthening of friendship between Russia and India.
For the first time the exhibition gives a chance to get acquainted with unique scientific material of Vedas, medical tracts Charakasamhita and Sushrutasamhita and many other Sanskrit works.
The material is presented in comprehensible and illustrative form on special stands with translation and explanatory pictures. Observations of ancient scientists and visionaries of India are displayed in several topical sectors: Ayurveda, chemistry, physics, metallurgy, astronomy, geology, botanic, mathematics, meteorology and gemology. Detailed description of observations and discoveries is given along with description of instruments, tools and methods of application.
The exhibition was created in Sanskrit State University (Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapith) in India on the basis of ancient Sanskrit sources.
