Murder of Anna Politkovskaya to be investigated by the General Procuracy

The journalist Anna Politkovskaya was killed in the lift of her house on Saturday, October 7. The preliminary investigation suggests that her professional activity is the main obvious motive for the murder. The investigation is being led by the General Procuracy of Russia under personal control of department's head Yury Chayka.
      Alexander Politkovsky, husband of the killed journalist, says he doesn't expect the murderer to be found. He also reports, that his wife started to get threats two years ago. However, it's not known whether she informed the police about being threatened.

Poor, poor Russian peoples. So much for freedom of speech - what a sham their govenment and "freedom" is. So many murders of journalists and people who speak out against what is going on. No justice - just a sham. Are we in 2006 or in the 1950's?

Clarification: yes, it is the corrupted government that chokes the freedom of speech, but it's also the my-way-or-no-way aggression (which is predominantly male -- no total male bashing here, please note that) that kills any attempt for democracy to be what it's meant to be in Russia. Males in power don't talk, they rule with their fist. Autocracts with deaf ears and thick skin. So much for "great Russia" -- it only exists in the government propaganda. I hear so many wonderful thngs about the citizens of Russia and how warm and loving they are to everyone there and to the travelers as well, but what worries me is that the russian citizens are not respected for their views and opinions by their own leaders, without the support of your own you cannot run a country, there is no power without your loving citizens to put you there, so to kill a woman who has a opinion or discoverd somethiing is nothing more than cowards who cannot stand to hear the truth.

Two things constitute journalism: news and analysis. In what she did there was neither first, nor latter. There was well paid russophobia only. What was the point? Her murder is a political tool of putting pressure on Russia, a pretext to accuse Russia in a lack of freedom for expressing opinions. She was obviously killed by her masters. Here in Russia the names a well known. She concluded a contract with the devil and paid for that. That�s the point. You feel sorry for her children. Everybody does, but you, western people, have a very selective feel of sorrow. Don�t you think people in Iraq or former Yugoslavia also have children? One should not argue about the things he has no idea about. Information you have about things in Russia totally differs from they really are.

Guest I don't claim to be narrow minded here on what goes on in Russia or other parts of the world. I just hate to see people die anywhere because of all the political garbage that goes on even in my own country. I love people and you are judging me because I am from the U.S. Maybe Anna Politkovskaya did a bargain with the devil, but it's up to GOD to judge when a person dies not the politcal jerks. Honestly, no one knows who done it. My sorrow is not limited, because I feel for everyone and it doesn't matter who you are or where you live in the world I am for all people, so to judge me to say I am limited on sorrow you are mistaken. I also disagree with the war too. I maybe American but I don't have to agree with everything my President does. I frankly don't like what he has done. I can say that. I do respect your opinion BUT, I would give my life for the world so don't pre-judge me because I am a westerner.

I will admit I only know so much on this murder. I live in the Southern part of America and we only get so much news here and a small amount of detail to it. I feel I went to far in expressing my opinion on it. I admit I don't know much about it. All I know is women are murdered left and right these days and this one kind of hit a soar spot with me. If I offended anyone I apologize, but only a few commented on this murder. True, It is not true that I don't love anybody, let me clear it up with you. I just feel for people and families. Okay. Guest, Sorry!!!!!!! I guess I should have not opened my big mouth. I am a red-head and I can go to far sometimes. To answer your question about the U.S., we maybe able to express our opinions but it doesn't always mean everybody is listening, sometimes our opinions can put us in a jail cell. So, I admit I don't know who killed Anna but I assume it had to be someone who was important and feared what she was going to expose to the public people. Tell me if I am wrong.

The mentality of today�s society in Russia is so that nobody can be feared or shocked by exposure of any information or scandal. Nobody takes care. She had no influence within Russia, moreover she was quite unpopular. I wish you knew Russian and could read her opuses. If you tell lies once, then nobody will ever believe you. All what she did was intended mostly for export. Try to find a list of awards and amounts of money she received from international organisations. By the way, do you know she had US citizenship? She got it in mid 1990-s. What for, I wonder. At the same time she kept Russian passport. Besides that you don�t take into consideration two things: 1. She was killed on the day that is president Putin�s birthday. 2. She was killed right before European summit in Finland, where negotiations about gas supplies from Russia to Europe took place. Do you think it is a coincident? Ha-ha! CUI BONO? Why don�t you think from time to time and not eat what you are fed with by others?

Guest, There is not coincident, stop assuming. Actually, I am studying the Russian language, I may not speak it right now but I will by the fall of 2007, because I will be visiting Russia. Being a Russian living in Russia i cannot agree with the statement that nobody cares here about the truth exposed. But it's not easy to figure out what is true and what is not. No matter if Anna Politkovskaya was exposing the truth or not, it is a shame to judge her now and gloat over the murder...
