Moscow will be able to return to normal life after a pandemic in May, the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin said. At the same time, he noted that the decline in the incidence of coronavirus in the city may begin earlier. “My forecast is May. Hopefully, I'm sure that the decline in incidence itself will be earlier. Already at the end of January-February we will see a more stable dynamics, a decrease in the incidence. But in order to somehow feel completely confident, I think it will be May," Mr. Sobyanin said in an interview with the Russia 24 TV channel. Mr. Sobyanin believes that this period largely depends on how actively citizens will be vaccinated against coronavirus. According to him, 140 thousand Muscovites were vaccinated against COVID-19. The number of people planning to be vaccinated has also increased, the mayor added. If before the New Year 7-8 thousand people were registered for vaccination per day, now this number has increased to 22-24 thousand.
According to the latest data, more than 877 thousand infected were detected in Moscow (+5893 thousand per day). More than 12 thousand people died since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 722 thousand people have recovered.
