The authorities of the Murmansk region have lifted restrictions on entry to Kirovsk and Apatity, located in the Khibiny, as the Governor said on his Instagram page.
“The epidemiological situation makes it possible to ease the restrictions in Kirovsk and Apatity. From January 16 we are opening them for entry,” Chibis wrote. Quarantine in Kirovsk and Apatity, where the region's mining enterprises are concentrated, was in effect since March 29, 2020. At the same time, the popular ski resorts "Bolshoy Vudyavr" and "Kukisvumchorr" are located in the Khibiny.
In the current winter season, due to the pandemic, the slopes began to work not in November, as usual, but from December 11, and until January 15, only residents of the Murmansk region were supposed to come there. The Arctic authorities noted that, provided a stable epidemiological situation, from January 15, tourists from other regions of Russia will be allowed to come to ski resorts in the Murmansk region. The ski season in the Khibiny under normal circumstances begins in late November - early December and ends in May.
In 2020, due to the pandemic, Bolshoy Vudyavr and Kukisvumchorr Group of Companies were forced to close at the end of March. In the future, a system of artificial snowmaking will be introduced in the Khibiny to increase the duration of the ski season.
