The Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs in Moscow, Tatyana Mineeva, predicted that up to 50% of Moscow fitness clubs may close by the end of 2020 or in the first quarter of 2021.
Representatives of the industry are asking the city authorities to introduce subsidies: in particular, reducing taxes and contributions, subsidies for payment of arrears, a moratorium on the return of advance payments for an annual subscription, etc., RBC reports. Experts estimate the overall decline in the fitness and sports industry at 35%. In the first wave, due to the suspension of the activities of most businesses, from 15 to 20% of fitness clubs and similar enterprises have already gone bankrupt. “If this dynamics continues, then by the end of 2020 - the first quarter of 2021, 50% of fitness clubs will go bankrupt,” the ombudsman concluded.
