The federal court of the District of Columbia granted Russia's petition and suspended the consideration of the claim of the former Yukos shareholders for two years, TASS reported, citing an electronic database of cases.
Former shareholders of the company (Hulley Enterprises, Yukos Universal and Veteran Petroleum, owned 70.5% of Yukos) are demanding to restore the arbitral award on payment of $ 50 billion in compensation to them. Judge Beryl Howell made this decision based on the fact that a similar case is currently underway in The Hague between the former owners of the oil company and the Russian authorities. The court decided to continue the examination of the case either after November 18, 2022, or after the end of the proceedings in The Hague. Now the Supreme Court of the Netherlands is considering the cassation appeal of the Russian Federation against the decision to pay more than $ 50 billion on the claims of the former shareholders of Yukos.
