Defense Ministers of Russia and Turkey Sergei Shoigu and Hulusi Akar signed a memorandum on the establishment of a joint center to monitor compliance with the ceasefire regime in Nagorno-Karabakh.
A few hours ago, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the signing of the document. The Russian department clarified that the center will collect, generalize and verify information on compliance with the ceasefire. It will become a body for dealing with complaints, questions or problems related to violations of agreements. As expected, the center will be located on the territory of Azerbaijan. As previously stated both in Baku and Moscow, the creation of a joint Russian-Turkish center to monitor compliance with the agreements does not mean the introduction of Turkish troops into Nagorno-Karabakh.
As the Kremlin specified, the signed agreement provides for the introduction of only Russian peacekeepers into the region, and the issue of the presence of Turkish peacekeepers in the region has not been agreed with anyone and their presence is not provided for by the agreement.
